Switch Over To The Right Track

Fallen Flags

On June 24, 2025, Alan's father, Ed Loizeaux passed away. Ed was a life-long model railroader, and fully invested in S-scale (1:64) modeling. Ed served as the president of the National Association of S Gaugers (nasg.org) from 1985 through 1989. Prior to that he was that organization's vice president representing the Western district from 1976 through 1983. In 1989 he started the 3/16 'S'cale Railroading magazine. In 2012 he was the principle leader to start the National Model Railroading Association's (NMRA) S-scale SIG, to help promote S-scale modeling to the rest of the NMRA's membership. Ed was a prolific author, having been published in his own magazine, the NASG's The Dispatch, Railroad Model Craftsman, 1:64 Modeling Guide, S Gaugian, and S/Sn3 Modeling Guide. Ed was involved in creating the NMRA's official DCC standards.

Ed built and commissioned others to build parts of his magnificent S-scale standard-gauge layout. In 2018 he commissioned Brent Delano to design a web site for his layout. Brent was a High School student at the time, so when he completed the design and went off to college, Ed commissioned Peter Vanvliet to take over the design and maintenance of the web site.

In 2024 Ed, realizing has advanced age, started liquidating much of his layout's equipment, structures, scenes, and sections of track work, ensuring that his models would go to people who would really enjoy and use his models on their own S-scale layouts.

Ed registered his web site under the domain name "nycvd.org", for the "New York Central Valley Division", for modeling the Catskill Mountain region of upstate New York. Since the layout is now gone, but his beautiful web site and photos can continue to inspire other modelers, we have decided to migrate his web site to this web site to keep it available for all to view.
